Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the title product having superior characteristics as starting material for glass paper, etc. by winding glass strands round a rotor fitted with a plurality of radially arranged knife edges and pressing the strands with a rotatable press roller to chop them.
CONSTITUTION: Glass strand bundle 1 treated with a water soluble sizing composition is supplied between rotor 4 fitted with a plurality of radially arranged knife edges 3 and to be subjected to forced driving and rotatable roller 2 placed at a predetermined interval from edges 3, and while being wound round rotor 4 bundle 1 is chopped by pressing with roller 2. The resulting glass chopped strands are each composed of split strand portions 6 and unsplit strand portion 7, and when they are added to a dispersing medium, the dispersibility is enhanced considerably. This strand product is suitable for use in manufacture of homogeneous glass paper.
