Abstract
PURPOSE: To accurately perform the acoustic radiation inspection during welding by continously measuring arc generation positions and letting the portion near the arc generating point where noise is produced frequently be a non-inspection area by making use of the measurement signal.
CONSTITUTION: Sound radiation sensors 9 are mounted at nearly equal spacing in the circumferential direction on the internal surface of the welding works 1 and with said mounting positions as a reference, the welding works 1 are so positioned in the weld line circumferential direction that the position of 0° becomes the welding start point. As welding is started, the welding works 1 rotate and the arc generation point is detected by a position detector 13. According to the indicated value thereof, a non-inspection area automatic setter 15 operates, thus the fixed region before and behind the arc generating position always becomes the non-inspection region. On the other hand, the sound radiation signal detected outside the non-inspection region is transmitted to a measuring device 17, by which it is utilized for evaluation of the sizes and positions of defects. The results are recorded by a printer 18.
