Abstract
PURPOSE: To harden the substrate surface, by covering the surface of iron base substrate such as ordinary steel and tool steel, placing temporarily-sintered WC-Co green compact, and further placing mixed green compact of temporarily-sintered Ni-P alloy and TaC as infiltrating agent, then heating.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of iron base substrate such as ordinary steel and tool steel is covered with Ni-P alloy by plating or other means, and temporarily-sintered WC-Co green compact is placed on the film surface. Further on this green compact, a mixed green compact of temporarily-sintered Ni-P alloy and TaC (2W20%) is placed as infiltrating agent, and is heated for a specified time. In this method, as compared with the method of using only Ni-P alloy as infitrating agent, the hardness of the infiltrated surface is higher and deformation of products is smaller, and the yield is higher. This method is effective for forming a hardened layer on the surface of mechanical seal ring or the like.
