Abstract

PURPOSE: To repair cracked shell to a state nearly equal to that at the time of blowing in, by attaching a box to the cracked part after the part is welded, then by cooling the part with the box filled with refractory material.
CONSTITUTION: When the shell 1 of a shaft furnace is cracked 2, it is repaired by welding after gouging. Then a box 9 is attached to the part many cracks have been made. To the box 9 are previously set several cooling means 10 such as staves etc. Castable refractory material is poured into the box 9 through a refractory- injecting inlet 11 to form a refractory layer 12. The surface portion 9a of the box and the refractory layer 12 are cooled by making cooling water flow through the staves 10. Hereby cracked parts of the shell are repaired to a state equal to that at the time of blowing in, thus the lifetime of the shell is lengthened remarkably.
