Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the peeling of a protective lining off the rmaining lining by packing an refractory into a number of holes drilled on damaged areas of the lining in repairing a refractory lining of a ladle or the like.
CONSTITUTION: Generally, a ladle or a refining furnace is provided with a permanent lining 5 made of a heat-insulating refractory brick inside a shell 4 on which a wear lining 6 is formed by a irregular shape refractory. The molten metal and slag tends to partially damage the wear lining 6. Here, for maintenance, a number of holes 7 ranging from 200 to 300 mm in dia. are drilled on the damaged lining 5 at desired points to a depth reaching the pamanent lining 6. The holes 7 are so dispersed as to occupy the damaged areas to be repaired by 10 to 20%. Then, an irregular refractory is packed into the area for repairing. In this manner, no peeling of the protective lining takes place off the remaining lining thus keeping the life of the lining as long as possible.
