Abstract

PURPOSE:To minimize the abrasion of a brush, and carry out commutation normally, by moving a brush support member in accordance with the rotational speed of a rotary machine toward the center of a commutator so as to vary the pressing force of the brush. CONSTITUTION:A brush 3 is inserted into a brush retaining hole 1a provided in a brush holder body 1, and urged by a coiled spring 6 toward a commutator 2a. A base end of the spring 6 is fixed to a pin 5 provided in a support member 4, which is adapted to be moved along guide grooves 1c provided in the brush holder body 1, toward the center of the commutator 2a. As the rotational speed detected of a rotary machine is increased, the support member 4 is moved from a position P1 to a position P5 toward the center of the commutator 2a. As a result, the pressing force of the spring 6 is varied in accordance with the rotational speed of the rotary machine. This allows the rate of abrasion of the brush 3 to be reduced. Also, the number of vibration of the brush can be controlled to a suitable level to carry out commutation normally.
