Abstract

The grinding machine for shaping work (4) with complicated surfaces particularly turbine blades, has the grinding wheel mounted on a spindle (8) passing through a ball joint (6) incorporated in a sliding block (3). This block travels to and for guided by slots in a block (1) fixed to the machine (2). The block is reciprocated by an arm (14) attached by a hinge pin on the block, and another hinge pin on a rotary drive member (16). Below the hinge point on the slider (3) is a spring loaded sleeve (11, 12) with a sloping seating surface which is forced against a ball (13) in turn forced against a similar seating surface on the end of the ball joint spindle.
