Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the mold of averaged high strength and high accuracy by interposing an air layer between the top surface of the molding sand packed in the mold-forming cavity above the pattern with vent holes and the squeeze plate provided with a membrane on its bottom surface, letting the membrane expand and pressing the squeeze plate in that state.
CONSTITUTION: A mold-forming cavity 5 is formed by the surface of the pattern device consisting of a pattern 2 and a pattern plate 3 and the internal surface of the molding flask 4 placed on the plate 3. A build-up flask 8 is hermetically placed on the molding flask 4 and molding sand S is packed in the cavity 5, after which the sequeeze plate 10 with an expansion membrane 13 is hermetically lowered in the build-up flask 8. A suitable amount of air layer is interposed between the bottom of the plate 10, i.e., the surface of the membrane 13 and the surface of the sand S. A valve 15 is opened to feed high-pressure air to the back side of the membrane 13 and let the membrane 13 expand instantaneously, by which the air in the flasks 4, 8 is compressed to a relatively high velocity of flow. This air is passed among the sand S particles and is exhausted through the vent holes 6 in the suitable places at the surface of the pattern device. Following to this, the valve 15 is reclosed to hold the high-pressure air confined in the membrane 13, in which state the plate 10 is lowered.
