Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the injection property of a fuel injection pump, by prescribing at almost 1:1 the ratio of the set pressure of a send-out valve to the opening pressure of an overflow valve for causing excess fuel in an oil reservoir of a pump housing to overflow.
CONSTITUTION: The ratio of the set pressure of the send-out valve 1 of a fuel injection pump to the opening pressure of its overflow valve 12 is prescribed at such a value of 1:1 that the send-out valve 1 is lifted simultaneously with the opening of the overflow valve 12 at end of injection. When pressre in an injection pipe becomes lower than that in a fuel chamber F just after the pressural supply travel of a plunger 10 and the opening of the send-out valve 1, the valve element of the valve 1 is lifted so that fuel in the fuel chamber F is introdused into the injection pipe through a gap between the inside surface of the center hole 5a of a valve seat 5 and the flatly nicked part 3a' of suck-back collar 3a of the send-out valve 1 and another gap between the valve element 2 and the valve fitting face 5a' of the valve seat 5. As a result, the pressure in the injection pipe is kept positive to prevent injection performance from becoming unstable due to negative pressure in the injection pipe.
