Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable sage starting in any starting condition by arranging an overpressure/shock absorber in a portion of a system piping for feeding cooling water to a condenser.
CONSTITUTION: In normal operation the cooling water fed from a circulating water pump 20 is directed by a four-way valve 19 into a first system piping 11 and flows through the cooling pipe in a condenser 10 into a second system piping 12, before flowing through the valve 19 to be discharged from a main cooling-water discharge pipe 21. When the condenser 10 is stopped and then restarted, if a water hammer or the like occurs to create a high pressure or shock in the system piping 11, the pressure or shock passes through an overpressur/shock absorber 15 such as a rupture disc and a safety valve and is discharged via the discharge pipe 21, so that the safety of the condenser 10 is procured. The overpressure/shock absorber 17 functions also when the flow direction of the cooling water is changed by changing over the valve 19.
