Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent producing water hammer with minimizing average flow speed change in a water piping in such a way that the condition of losing power from a prime mover for a pump is detected, and high pressure is forced into the water piping by the detecting signals.
CONSTITUTION: Water is fed from a suction reservoir 1 through a water piping 12 to a discharge reservoir 9 by a pump 2. Then, when a prime mover for the pump 2 loses power by some cause, a driving condition detector 3 detects it, which gives signals to a sequence device 4, the sequence device 4 gives open signals to a pneumatic valve 5, and high pressure air is forced from an air reservoir 6 through a nozzle 8 into the water piping 12. The air forced into the water piping 12 is expandingly moved in the direction of the discharge reservoir 9, at the same time, water in the water piping 12 is moved likewise in the same direction. These movements continue until inner pressure in the air reservoir 6 balances with the inner pressure in the water piping 12. Thus, water hammer is prevented by minimizing average flow speed change of flowing water.
