Abstract

PURPOSE: To stably and accurately detect weak knocking, by using vibration detectors having their resonance characteristics in different frequency bands and by switching resonance outputs depending on the condition of an engine to detect its knocking.
CONSTITUTION: A stay 29 fitted with two piezoelectric vibration detectors 21A, 21B is secured on the cylinder block of an engine by a threaded part 29a to detect vibration in a vertical direction of an arrow in the running of the engine. The detectors 21A, 21B have their resonance characteristics at prescribed frequency levels. The detector 21A responds with high sensitivity to knocking in a low frequency band but the other detector 21B responds with high sensitivity to knocking in a high frequency band. These detectors are so arranged that the output of a detector with a higher S/N ratio can be used through a switch circuit. This results in always properly detecting knocking.
