Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish accurate drilling of completely round hole while improving the durability of the drill used by blasting a cooling medium on the surface of the soft elastic body to solidify it locally before drilling is made at the point thus solidified.
CONSTITUTION: A cooling medium such as liquified carbonic acid gas and liquified nitrogen is blasted on the surface of a soft elastic body to solidify it locally. Then, the drill is lowered to make a hole at the point. For example, the drill 3 is lowered about 5mm above the surface of a hollow sponge section 2 and then, stopped. With the solenoid valve 4 of the carbonic acid gas pipeline opened, a low temperature carbonic acid gas is blasted to the drilling position for 1W2min. Consequently, the sponge at the drilling position is cooled down to -40W-50°C to be solidified. Then, the drill rotating is lowered. This allows the drilling of a trully round hole at the point of the sponge solidified by cooling without causing any deformation by the cutting edge.
