Abstract
Liq. CO2 is expanded so it solidifies, and the solid CO2 is mixed with a liq. (I) to form a suspension, which is fed through an evaporator-sublimer (5) located in a space or medium which is to be cooled or refrigerated, so the temp. of the suspension is raised. After leaving unit (5), the suspension pref. travels through a compressor and condenser so the CO2 is reliquefied and can be recycled. Alternatively, the CO2 gas can be discharged into the atmos. Liq. (I) is pref. a terpene or a mixt. of terpenes with alcohols or methylene chloride. Used to attain a temp. of -56 degrees to -79 degrees C for rapid cooling of perishable prods., foods, plastics, elastomers, gases, earth, or any other use, where the invention is simpler than conventional processes such as those using Freons (RTM).
