Abstract
PURPOSE:To properly charge a battery in an unknown degree of discharged state, by conducting a charging operation utilizing the linearity between a period of time required until a voltage lower than that in a complete charged state is reached and an accumulative current discharged during said period of time. CONSTITUTION:Upon measuring the time required until a voltage in a completely charged state is reached from each discharged state when a nickel-iron battery is charged with a certain current, the relation between an accumulative current output and time required until a voltage lower than that in a completely charged state is reached exhibits a good linearity. Consequently, the charging time detected and a current capacity remaining after a previous discharge is obtained and converted into a signal, on which remaining charging time and an accumulative electricity are determined by a micro-computer or the like, and then preceeding with the charging operation at a low rate. Therefore, a battery in an unknown discharge level can be properly charged and an easy maintenance of batteries is accomplished.
