Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform smoothly the throttling of suction path according to the variation in the operating flow rate as well as prevent the occurrence of pulsative movement and cavitation by providing an elastic variable throttle body having the same effect as a throttle plate in the suction path of a pump.
CONSTITUTION: Since pressure is raised as a discharge flow rate reduces, a pressure is raised and applied to the ring variable throttle body 8 of an elastomer (e.g., rubber), provided on the periphery of a suction path, through the pressure reduction valve 10, and the variable throttle body 8 is expanded toward the radial direction of the suction path to cause a throttling action to take place smoothly without abruptly throttling the flow parth area, as shown at numeral 9. By the variable throttling, a part, or a swirl flow, of fluid subject to a large energy by the rotation of the impeller 1 is trapped between the impeller 1 and the deformed throttle body 9, and thus cannot be developed any more, so that pulsative movement and cavitation can be prevented.
