Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce axial thrust changes due to variations in operating conditions by providing a plurality of balance tubes connecting a pump suction pipe to a casing wall surface which face each other near a boss located on the rear of an impeller, and by opening and closing a valve on the way to the pressure balance pipes.
CONSTITUTION: A casing wall 4 is designed to face a boss located on the side wall of the rear surface of an impeller 1. The pump casing wall 4 is provided with a plurality of pressure balance pipes 12 which connect a pump suction member 7. A valve 13 which can be opened and closed is also installed on the way to the piping. With this construction, the flow rate can be adjusted by changing the resistance of the balance pipes 12. The resistance ratio between a wearing 9 and a balance pipe 12 can also be changed so that the pressure level inside a balance chamber 11 can be changed. Therefore, when the pump suction pressure rises, the valve 13 is closed in proportion to the increased pressure, thereby changing thrusts in the balance in chamber 11 in proportion to axial thrust changes due to the suction pressure.
