Abstract

PURPOSE: An inexpensive flame-retardant composition that is prepared by adding guanidine phosphate to sodium silicate, thus being transparent and good at the impregnation into cellulose articles and dedusting effect.
CONSTITUTION: Guanidine phosphate is added to sodium silicate in an amount of 2W37 wt% based on the total amount. When the content of guanidine phosphate is less than 2 wt%, it is satisfactory in dedusting effect and exceeding 37 wt% lowers the storage atability and raises the cost. The guanidine phosphate decompose into ammonium phosphate and carbon dioxide when heated over 250°C and the phosphoric acid component in the ammonium phosphate promotes catalytically the formation of carbon when cotton when cotton burns, thus reducing the combustible gases and preventing the dust residue.
