Abstract

PURPOSE: An emission composition for fluorescent display tube excited by low-speed electron beams that is made by blending a specific amount of red pigment particles of cadmium sulfide selenide with a zinc oxide fluorescent substance activated with zinc, thus giving high display contrast with no use of a filter.
CONSTITUTION: (A) Zinc-activated zinc oxide fluorescent substance is combined with (B) less than 20wt%, preferably less than 3wt%, of red pigment particles of cadmium sulfide selenide and they are mixed with a ball mill to give the objective emission composition. The component A is prepared by calcinating zinc oxide under a reducive atmosphere or by calcinating zinc oxide containing a trace amount of a zinc compound such as zinc sulfide in the air. The resulting composition is, e.g., coated on one surface of the anode plate as the fluorescent film and the plate is made to oppose to the cathode in a vacuum vessel whereby the composition is used as a fluorescent substance excited by low-speed electron beams.
