Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound capable of giving thermosetting resins having moldability and processability sufficient for practical use, with excellent heat resistance, in high yield and purity, by reacting a polyamine with a specific amount of an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride.
CONSTITUTION: One or two or more types of unsaturated dicarboxylic acids, e.g. maleic or itaconic anhydride, of the formula (Z is organic group having a carbon- carbon double bond) are reacted with one or two or more types of polyamines having two or more amino groups in the molecule on the average, e.g. m- or p- phenylene-diamine, in an amount of 1.01W1.30 moles per equivalent of the amino group of the polyamine in the presence of a dehydrating agent, e.g. butyric anhydride, and a dehydration and cyclization catalyst, e.g. cobalt acetate, in a solvent, e.g. acetone, to give the title compound.
