Abstract

PURPOSE: Complete removal of phosphorus present in water effectively and at low cost by adjusting phosphorus-containing water such as industrial waste in the presence of a specified metal ion to a given pH and contacting the water with an anion exchanger.
CONSTITUTION: Metal ion such as Mg, Ca, Fe, Al, Zn, etc. capable of forming a salt, which is difficult to dissolve, with phosphoric acid, is added to phosphorus- containing water such as industrial water. The pH of the mixture is adjusted to higher than 8.5, and the phosphorus as a precipitate which is difficult to dissolve, is filtered off. The filtrate is contacted with an anion exchanger such as a strong basic or weak basic anion exchanger resin to adsorb the remaining phosphoric ion. Then, the anion exchanger is contacted with a regenerant liquid consisting of an basic compound or salt such as NaOH, KOH, Na2CO3, NaCl and KCL to release the phosphoric ion. Further, the released regenerated waste liquid is recycled to a separation stage for said phosphorus precipitate which is difficult to dissolve.
