Abstract

PURPOSE:To manufacture a solidifying agent for organics which is capable of solidifying organics at ordinary temperatures from a combination of 12-hydroxystearic acid and an organic solvent to dissolve it. CONSTITUTION:A combination of 12-hydroxystearic acid and an organic solvent capable of dissolving 20 to 70 wt% the 12-hydroxystearic acid at 50 deg.C is prepared. The organic solvent used is falled into bad solvent, e.g., polyhydric alcohols, ethers, etc., and good solvent, e.g., lower fatty acids, liquid amides, etc., roughly according to the solubility of 12-hydroxystearic acid, and then are used either soly or in combination. The organic solvent and 12-hydroxystearic acid are mixed at 30 to 60 deg.C to dissolve 12-hidroxystearic aicd, and then cooled to obtain a solid or semisolid compound. The compound is used as a solidifying agent for such organics as heavy oil, light oil, etc., in order to prevent the dispersion of spillage oil, etc., to wider range and thereby to recover them.
