Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain phosphorothiolates as agrochemicals simply and in high yields, by electrolytically oxidizing a mixture of a disubstituted disulfide and disubstituted phosphite in the presence of a halide as a catalyst in an organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Phosphorothiolates of the formula III can be quantitatively obtained by electrolytically oxidizing a mixture of compounds of the formulae I and II [R is a 1W5C straight-chain or branched alkyl group, a 5W6C alicyclic group, (substituted) phenyl group, or benzyl group, or a 1W5C alkoxycarbonylalkyl group, and R' is 1W5C straight-chain or branched alkyl group or (substituted) phenyl group] in the presence of an inorganic or organic halide, e.g., chloride, bromide, iodide, etc., together with a supporting salt, e.g., amine, ammonium salt, perchlorate, etc., in an organic solvent, e.g., nitrile such as acetonitrile, at 0W100°C, preferably 10W50°C, using an electrode of platinum, stainless steel, carbon, etc.
