Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain title resin, useful as hot-melt adhesives, etc., by the reaction of phenols with a copolymer of 2,4-dimethyl-4-vinyl-1-cyclohexene and dimethyl-1,3,6,- octatriene.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. of 2,4-dimethyl-4-vinyl-1-cyclohexene and ≤300pts.wt., preferably 10W100pts.wt., of dimethyl-1,3,6-octatriene are copolymerized, if required in the presence of compounds selected from 4W6C aliphatic unsaturated hydrocarbons such as butadiene and isobutene, 8W12C aromatic unsaturated compounds such as styrene and vinyltoluene, and 4W12C alicyclic unsaturated compounds such as cyclopentadiene and cyclopentene. Then title resin is obtained by reacting phenols such as cresol and vinyl-phenol, with the resulting copolymer.
