Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a remedy for arrhythmia, etc. from a substituted indole obtained by reacting a compound obtined easily from isopropylamine and a dihaloisopropenyl acetate, with an N-substituted 4-hydroxyindole salt.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (X is halogen) is reacted with an alkali metal salt of an N-substituted 4-hydroxyindole of formula II in an aprotic solvent to afford a substituted indole of formula III, which is converted to the title compound of formula IV by the simultaneous catalytic reduction, hydrogenation decomposition and hydrolysis in the presence of a catalyst such as Pd, Pt, etc. and a caustic alkali under agitation under the atmosphere of pressurized H2.
