Abstract

PURPOSE: In purifying and reusing unreacted monomers and/or solvents recovered from the step of polymerizing conjugated dienes in the presence of catalysts, to make it possible to recycle and reuse purified products without lowering of polymerization activity, by countercurrent contact with water containing a small amount of oxygen.
CONSTITUTION: Unreacted monomers and/or solvents such as pentane or xylene, containing a small amount of water-soluble alcohols, recovered from the step of polymerizing conjugated dienes such as 1.3-butadiene, isoprene, or 1,3-pentadiene, in the presence of a (coordinated) anionic catalyst such as Ziegler catalyst, are brought into countercurrent contact with water to separate the water-soluble alcohols and then purified before they are recycled and reused in the polymerization step. Thereby, the water to be used contains ≤2ppm, preferably ≤1ppm, more preferably ≤0.2ppm of dissolved oxygen. Consequently, cthe recycling auses no lowering of polymerization activity and physical properties of the polymerized products.
