Abstract

PURPOSE: Unreacted monomers and/or solvents recovered from the step of polymerizing conjugated dienes in the presence of catalysts, are brought into countercurrent contact with water, distilled to remove high-boiling impurities and separated from oxygen, whereby the resulting products may be recycled and reused without lowering of polymerization activity.
CONSTITUTION: Unreacted monomers and/or solvents such as pentane or xylene, containing a small amount of water-soluble alcohols, recovered from the step of polymerizing conjugated dienes such as isoprene, in the presence of a (coordinated) anionic catalyst such as Ziegler catalyst, are brought into countercurrent contact with water to remove the water-soluble alcohols, distilled and then dehydrated before they are recycled and reused in the polymerization step. Thereby, after removing the water-soluble alcohols, they are distilled to separate the high-boiling impurities, then kept at ≤50°C and separated from oxygen by means of nitrogen bubbling, vacuum deaeration, etc., within four hours after the distillation, to reduce the the amount of the oxygen dissolved to ≤1ppm, preferably ≤0.5ppm, before they are recycled and reused.
