Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the lubricating condition on a pivot bearing in a rotary device which is supported by the pivot bearing in the direction of the thrust, by using a magnetic fluid as a lubricant and placing a magnet to cause magnetism concentration on the contact part of the pivot bearing.
CONSTITUTION: A rotary shaft 6, which is provided with a pivot bearing 7 at the bottom of the shaft and with a flywheel 8 at its top, is rotatably supported in a housing 9. A column-shaped permanent magnet 13 magnetized in the axial direction of the shaft, is housed in the center of a bottom lid 11 attached to the housing 9 and faces the pivot bearing 7. A magnetic lubricating fluid 14 is enclosed in a radial fluid bearing section 10 defined between the rotary shaft 6 and the housing 9 and enclosed around the pivot bearing 7. According to this constitution, magnetism concentration takes place on the tip of the pivot bearing 7 and the magnetic fluid 14 is attracted and caught on the tip of the pivot bearing. This results in improving the lubricating condition on the contact part of the pivot bearing 7.
