Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce friction between and wear of a rotary shaft and a bearing pad during rotation of the shaft at a low speed by providing below the rotary shaft an electromagnet having a polarity reverse to that of a permanent magnet which is provided on an inner wall of the hollow rotary shaft.
CONSTITUTION: Electromagnets 12, 13 having a polarity reverse to that of a permanent magnet 2 which is provided on an inner wall of a hollow rotary shaft 1 are provided below the rotary shaft 1. By the construction, during rotation of the shaft 1 at a low speed, the rotary shaft 1 can be floated above bearing pads 3b, 3c by magnetic action against the gravity acting thereupon, and hence friction between and wear of the rotary shaft 1 and the bearing pads 3b, 3c can be reduced thereby.
