Abstract

CONSTITUTION: An Al alloy billet esp. pref. of JIS2024 is strongly extruded at a working degree of 80% or more and the recrystallization temp. or below by a hydrostatic press. extrusion method. As a result, the grains of the billet are refined, and the intrinsic structure is destroyed. The extruded billet is then subjected to soln. heat treatment by heating usually to about 465W525°C and rapid cooling. By this treatment the structure of the billet is converted into very fine recrystallized structure, and the ductility in the longitudinal and lateral directions is made uniform. By using the resulting material and selecting dies a rotor wedge material of wedge form is obtd. easily.
