Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce fine scaly zinc powder in a short time and safely, by adding aryl nitro compound, when wet-grinding zinc powder in the presence of grinding additive, dispersing agent and solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Higher fatty acid, such as stearic acid, and Ca salt, Zn salt, Al salt thereof and others are added by 0.1W10% to pure zinc powder as grinding additives. In addition, xylene, mineral turpentine, or the like as solvent, pigment composition as dispersing agent, and aryl nitro compound such as nitrobenzene and orthonitro toluene are added by 1W10%. This mixture is ground in wet process by means of a vibrating mill or ball mill. As a result, fine scaly zinc powder of which average longer diameter is 1W2μ and thickness is about 0.5W1μ may be obtained at a yield higher than 90%, without generating hydrogen. When this substance is used as paint for rust preventive treatment, a paint capable of forming a thin coat film with less setting and fixing may be obtained.
