Abstract

Inorganic pigments are rendered dispersible by coating with a non-ionic surface-active triester of phosphoric acid. Lithopones, ultra-marine, and metal powders such as Zn, Cu, Au and Al-bronze are mentioned. The triester may be added in pure, dissolved or emulsified form in amount 0.1-10% by wt. by spraying or during a grinding operation. Alternatively, it may be added to the pigment in suspension at 10-90 DEG C. and pH of 2-11, and the solid residue dried at 170 DEG C.ALSO:An inorganic pulverous substance is rendered dispersible by coating with a non-ionic surface active triester of phosphoric acid of the formula <FORM:1116721/C1/1> in which R1, R2 and R3 are the same or different alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals; halogen-, NO2-, HO-, COOH-, -SO3H, NH2-, -NHR, -NR2, alkyl-, aryl-, alkoxy- and/or polyalkoxy-substituted alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals; polyalkoxy or polyol radicals, or R1, R2 and R3 together form a polyol radical. The triester may be added in pure, dissolved or emulsified form in amount 0.1-10% by wt. to the solid substance, by spraying or during a grinding operation. Alternatively it may be added to the substance in suspension at 10-90 DEG C. and a pH of 2-11 and the solid residue dried at 170 DEG C. TiO2, Cr2O3, ZnS, CaCO3 and iron oxides are treated in the examples, but may other substances are listed.
