NEW MATERIAL:A bicyclooctane derivative shown by the formula I (R1 is H or lower alkyl; X is single bond, vinylene chain, or ethylene chain; Y is H or hydroxyl-protecting group; A is lower alkylene chain or single bond).
EXAMPLE: 2β-( 3'-Hydroxy-1'-trans-propenyl )-3- α -hydroxy-7-( 4'-carboxybutylidene )- bieyclo [3.3.0] octane.
USE: A platelet aggregation inhibitor and an intermediate for synthesizing other homologue.
PROCESS: A compound shown by the formula II is reacted with a Wittig reagent shown by the formula III (R' is aryl; R1' is H, or H or lower alkyl when A is single bond, methylene chain, or ethylene chain) or shown by the formula IV (R" and R1" are lower alkyl), and, if necessary, the hydroxyl-protecting group is removed, to replace R1' by H or lower alkyl and to give the desired compound shown by the formula I.
