Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a small-size cell free of the leak of liquid by the procedure in which a part of a polymer material is modified by hydrophilic groups to prepare an ion-permeable separator, the hydrophilic portion is provided with an active substance and then covered with a covering material, and then adhesion is made at ion- impermeable portion. CONSTITUTION:Hydrophilic groups are grafted on a part of the ion-impermeable high polymer sheet 1 of polypropylene, etc., to form the ion-permeable portion 2. The ion-permeable portion of the sheet 1 is provided with the positive electrode active substance 3, e.g., silver oxide positive electrode mixture, and also its opposite side is provided with the negative electrode active substance 4, e.g., zinc mixture. T hen, both the positive and negative active substances are covered with a synthetic resin covering, e.g., the polypropylene film 6, and hot melt adhesion is made at the ion-impermeable portion of the sheet 1 for forming air-tight covering around the film 6. Furthermore, the heated current-collecting projection 5 is thrust into the said synthetic resin covering to form a cell.
