Abstract
PURPOSE: An aqueous maleic acid condensed at least to a specified concentration and kept over a specified temperature and a heating medium heated over a specified temperature are together sprayed into a spraying column to come into contact with each other, thus forming maleic anhydride in a short time and the liquid containing the heating medium is recycled from the bottom of the column for spraying.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous maleic acid is concentrated with thin film evaporator A to a concentration over 80%, the steam is removed in cyclon B, then the maleic acid is kept over 100°C and supplied to spraying column C. A heating medium heated over 120°C is supplied from pipe 5 into spraying column to come into contact with the concentrate of aqueous maleic acid and the vapor of the objective compound and steam are obtained from pipe 6. The most part of the liquid from the column bottom, which contains the heating medium, is heated over 120°C with heater D and recycled to the spraying column C and the rest part is sent to the heating medium recycling system F to remove by-products. The heating medium used is, e.g., silicone oil or saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon of 15 or more carbon atoms.
EFFECT: The reaction time is short and the formation of fumaric acid is lowered. Further, the facility can be simplified.
