Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent completely one side of a steel plate from being plated by molten metal, by coating an aqueous slurry comprising zirconium silicate, alkali silicate, boric acid, and alkali metal hydroxide on the other side of the steel plate. CONSTITUTION:Four components comprising zirconium silicate, alkali silicate such as water glass, boric acid and alkali metal hydroxide sucha as NaOH is dissolved or dispressed in an appropriate amount of water. This aqueous slurry is coated on one side of a steel plate and dried by heating, thereafter passed through a molten plating metal bath. Thereby, the plating on the other side is completely inhibited and, after plating, when the plated steel plate is allowed to cool, a coating film is naturally released. Moreover, when brushing, blower drying or the like is applied, a single-side plated steel plate whose one side is uniformly plated and other side retains a beautiful cold-rolled surface is obtained.
