Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent completely one side of a steel plate from being plated by molten metal, by coating an aqueous slurry comprising magnesia, alkali silicate, alkali metal hydroxide, boric acid, titania or the like on the other side of the steel plate. CONSTITUTION:Five components comprising magnesia or magnesium hydroxide, alkali silicate such as water glass, alkali metal hydroxide such as NaOH, boric acid and one or more of titania, titanium hydroxide and titanic acid sol are dissolved or dispersed in an appropriate amount of water. This aqueous slurry is coated on one side of a steel plate and this coated steel plate is passed through a molten plating metal bath. Thereby, the plating of the other side is completely inhibited. Subsequently, when the plated steel plate is immersed in water and rapidly cooled, a coating film is completely released. Moreover, when brushing, blower drying or the like is applied, a single-side plated steel plate whose one side is uniformly plated and other side retains a beautiful cold-rolled surface is obtained.
