Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce COD value to 10ppm or less by adding sulfamic acid and iron ion to the washing-rust proofing concurrent treatment waste water of a chemical plant and then by subjecting the waste water to an oxidation process using hydrogen peroxide and an oxidation process using a persulfate.
CONSTITUTION: To a washing-rust proofing concurrent treatment waste water from a chemical plant, containing a chelating organic acid or its salt, a nitrogen-containing base, an organic amine as inhibitor, and a nitrite as rust inhibitor, equimolar amounts of a nitrite, e.g., sodium nitrite, etc., and sulfamic acid are added in order to remove nitrous acid and at the same time to lower its pH. Then, ferrous sulfate is added to the waste water so treated in such a proportion that iron ion having a chelating activity similar to or more than that of a chelating organic acid or its salt, e.g., ammonium citrate, etc., and then the waste water is subjected to an oxidation treatment using hydrogen peroxide to precipitate undercomposed chelating organic acid and its salts, iron ion, and copper ion, and further the supernatant is subjected to an oxidation treatment using a super sulfate.
