Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a recording medium which has sufficiently-large coercive force at the normal temperature while decreasing in the force at a high temperature, by forming on a base material a specific alloy magnetic thin film pricipally of cobalt.
CONSTITUTION: On a substrate such as a polyethylene terephtalate film, cobalt alloy of cobalt as the main principal consitutent and iron, nickel, titanium, etc., as other constituents is vapor-deposited to provide an alloy thin film of hexagonal system structure of not greater than approximate 1μ in thickness. Further, when the main axis [six-time symmetric axis (C axis) of the hexagonal congested lattice] of its anisotropic axis is oriented to take a measurement through X-ray (or electron beam) diffraction, the intensity ratio of the (002) surface to the (200) surface should be not less than approximate 4.
