Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the coupling method of optical fibers in which reflected light does not return to light source hence laser noise is less by disposing a signal mode optical fiber between a semiconductor laser and a multimode optical fiber.
CONSTITUTION: The exit light 11 from a semiconductor laser 1 passes through a single mode optical fiber 5 and is entered to the multimode optical fiber 4 in a plug 3 placed by leaving a spacing from this fiber 5. At this time, the reflected light 12 at the photodetecting end face 4a of the optical fiber 4 and the reflected light from the other end face do not reverse enter the light source because the diameter of the optical fiber 5 is sufficiently small. As a result of this, the semiconductor laser noise may be considerably improved and if such light source is used, the SN ratio of optical transmission may be improved and the stabilization of light signal output achieved.
