PURPOSE: To enhance a detection sensitivity by detecting and measuring a magnetic scale by a high-frequency vibrator which magnetism is given to.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of electrostrictive material 2a such as a crystal and a porcelain is coated with magnetic material 2b such as an AlSiFe material thinly, and material 2a is fixed to support base material 2c, and tape guide 2d of plastic, etc., is fixed to base material 2c, and electrostrictive vibrator 2a is moved above magnetic scale 1 while keeping a fixed minute gap by guide 2d. When vibrator 2a reaches a magnetized magnetic graduation, a magnetic suction force acts on vibrator 2a, and the vibration state of vibrator 2a which performs high-frequency vibration due to an oscillator is changed. Then, this change is detected as change of the number of vibrations, change of the reflection wave, change of the piezo-electric signal, etc., thus detecting the graduation of magnetic scale.
