Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect the entanglement of a wire material instantaneously without malfunction and enable its feeding to be stopped by letting detectors of non-contact system be repeatedly turned ON and OFF by the coil-form wire material being fed and comparing at least one amount thereof with a reference value.
CONSTITUTION: Detectors, e.g., photoelectric tube 5 and projector 5' are provided on both sides of a coil-form wire material W so as to intersect orthogonally with the advance direction of the wire material W. The wire material W supplied in the arrow direction shuts off a beam L each time when it passes the detectors and the time thereof (OFF time) is constant. When entanglement or intertwining occurs in the wire material, it passes by becoming a bundle, thus the ON time become longer and the OFF time shorter as compared to the ordinary time. Pulse converters 6, 7 output the output signals respectively proportional to measured and reference quenching times t1, t2 and an addition-subtraction operator 8 outputs the signal of t1-t2. When this is the case of + region, a prime mover 9 is stopped. Similarly, it is equally well to detect the photo detecting time or both quenching and photodetecting times.
