Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible the formation of the images faithful to the original and of good gradation characteristic by making the latent images of controlled gradation characteristic through exposure with the original light images scanned at the desired illuminance distribution by the use of light sources permitting changing of the illuminance distribution.
CONSTITUTION: The reflected light radiated from illumination lamps 31, 32 passes through mirrors 5, 6, lens 7, etc. and form latent images on a photosensitive drum 1. Here, the filaments of the lamps 31, 32 are placed at the ellliptical focus formed by reflecting shades 41, 42 and the other focus is placed on glass 2. The luminous intensities of the lamps are varied by changing voltage with a variable resistor or the like, whereby the illuminance distribution is changed. For example, when the original is of a hard grade, the original is so scanned that the rate of the luminous intensities of the lamps 31, 32 become of the specified value, whereby the latent images are formed. Thereby, the controlling of the latent images faithful to the original may be done and the images of good gradation characteristic may be reproduced.
