Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of breakout by detecting sticking phenomena with an electrical means, forecasting the occurrence of breakout and decreasing the rate of pouring.
CONSTITUTION: In a normal casting state, a part between the inside surface of a mold 3 and shell 4 is insulated by the uniform inflow of powder 7 and the applied voltage becomes the closed circuit of molten steel 5, float rolls 6, cooling water, earth 22, connection point 21, circuit provided with detecting coil 24 and power source 17. The current ID becomes of a high level and the current IU of an approximately zero level. When sticking occurs, the powder film breaks locally and the current from the molten steel 5 passes therethrough and shunts to the connection points 20, 21. Since the distance from the mold meniscus part to the connection points 20, 21 is made smaller for the former, the current IU becomes of a high level. When the IU/ID signal from a rate operator 31 becomes higher than safe current rate, the rate of casing is decreased and the occurrence of breakout prevented.
