Abstract
PURPOSE:To effectively cool the roll with a small flow rate of cooling water, by cooling the reducing roll, while serving in the hot rolling work for the steel material, with colling water given a specified jet pressure and a specified water rate density that is the water rate per unit area of roll surface being subjected to the jet stream of cooling water. CONSTITUTION:When the steel material is hot rolled by the reducing roll 1, the roll cooling headers 2 are arranged along the outer surface of the roll at an interval (a) of 100-250mm; hereupon, the header 2 is provided with many cooling water jetting tips 3 arranged at uniform pitch. While operating the hot rolling work, the cooling water is jetted from the tips 3 with the jet pressure 10-25kg/cm<2>G and the water rate density 4-10m<3>min.m<2> that is the cooling water rate per unit area of the surface of roll 1; hereby, the roll 1 is cooled. By cooling with above stated range of pressure and water rate density, the cooling effect of the roll is most imprved, and the reducing roll is effectively colled with the little amount of cooling water and the water jetting energy, and besides, the erosion of the roll is reduced.
