Abstract

PURPOSE: To mass-produce pyrolignous acid useful as medicine, etc., simply and effectively by the procedure in which wood, bark, etc., is baked in steam in a specified temperature range and then moisture present in smoke generated is liquefied and tar present is removed.
CONSTITUTION: Wood, bark, etc., containing moisture are charged on the reticular receiving plate 3 of the steam-baking apparatus 1 and baked at 170W400°C. Then only heavy smoke containing a large amount of moisture generated in the steam- baking operation is directed to the cooler 7 through the flue 4 provided at the lower part of the receiving plate 3 by the forced inductor 5, where the smoke containing a large amount of moisture is cooled by the water tank 8 of the cooler 7 to liquefy the moisture on the one hand and to obtain pyrolignous acid containing tar on the other. Then, the pyrolignous acid is sent to a precipitating separator to precipitate tar by utilizing the difference in specific gravities between pyrolignous acid and tar, or sent to a centrifugal separator to separate tar in order to obtain pyrolignous acid.
