Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a picture of excellent gradation reproducibility by improving the apparent half-tone reproducibility of a recording picture by converting pulse density into a bit pattern matching with recording density characteristics of a recording method.
CONSTITUTION: An analog picture signal from picture input terminal 6 is converted into a digital signal consisting of n bits including black information and one bit showing only white information by A/D converter circuit 1 and after this signal is applied to memory circuit 2 and synchronized with reference clocks from reference clock signal input terminal 7, the signal including the n-bit black information is applied to bit pattern converter circuit 10. An n-bit signal only outputted from this circuit is converted into a bit pattern matching with recording density characteristics and the converted pattern is applied to comparator circuit 3, where it is compared with reference clock pulses of m bits obtained by counter circuit 4, and only when the output of circuit 4 is smaller, output pulses are applied to recording driver circuit 9 to project a picture of excellent gradation reproducibility.
