Abstract

PURPOSE: To make half-tone transmission of a picture possible by coding half tones of a picture original with density section and then by performing compressing coding process of them.
CONSTITUTION: An analog picture signal from photoelectric conversion scanner circuit 11 is applied to A/D converter ciucuit 12, where the signal is converted into a three-bit octal digital signal, which is stored in picture signal storage circuit 13. In this way, picture density is sectioned by eight gradiations, and eight threshold levels are set in accordance with them. Next, "1" with the digital signal exceeding the threshold level or "0" with it below it is displayed on a fixed digit. In this way, a run-length-coded signal is compared with the above threshold level only information on a different part is coded to reduce bits in number, thereby lessening transmitted signals. This bit signal is sent to control circuit 15, which performs the whole control such as actuation of a sub-scan. Received signals appear on a screen by adjusting recording density by controlling the value of a recording voltage and its application time by memory circuit 23 and control circuit 25.
