Abstract

PURPOSE:A composition of an antidental plaque tooth paste useful for preventing dental disease, having improved antidental plaque effect and no bad influence upon the taste and the smell. obtained by blending a tooth paste composition with a fatty acid ester of sucrose. CONSTITUTION:0.05-0.45wt% of a fatty acid ester of sucrose consisting of an ester of sucrose and a 16-18C higher fatty acid, e.g., stearic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, or their mixture is added to a tooth paste composition, e.g., aluminum allantoinate, sodium chloride, fluoride, glycyrrhizinate, etc. to give the title composition. The sucrose ester of a fatty acid prevents bacteria from adhering to the teeth to provide an improved antidental plaque action. The sucrose ester has weaker antibacterial activity against streptococcus mutans, a typical strain of a bacterium, than Chlorhexidine, but possesses an improved antidental plaque activity.
