PURPOSE:A composition for oral purpose that contains 2-hydroxy-6-alkylbenzoic acid as an active ingredient, thus being used for tooth paste, troches or chewing gum, because of its inhibition of the formation of rhyparia and production of acids to prevent tooth decay and periodontosis. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition for oral purpose contains 0.0001-1wt% of 2-hydroxy-6-alkylbenzoic acid where the alkyl group has 13-17 carbon atoms and includes 0-3 double bonds. Since the compound can prohibit the formation of rhyparia and acid production caused by Streptococcus mutans even in a relatively low concentration, the amount can be lessened and the safety is increased.
